Dear Colleagues!

On behalf of the organizing committee and Tekna it is a pleasure to invite you the 21 International Oil Field Chemistry Symposium.

Industry challenges
In 2008 and 2009 our industry has found itself in a turbulent market with oil and gas prizes falling dramatically. It now, however, looks like the world economy may stabilize and this spring a gradual prize increase has been observed from the $ 40 bottom level.

The financial crisis and its consequences have forced the industry to be financially prudent, and cost effectiveness remains a major driver for solving problems.

Environmental responsibility continues to grow in strength as a driver for developing solutions to production challenges in very environmentally sensitive areas. This may result in delayed action in order to bring oil and gas to the international market when demand again increases.

Technology developments
The challenges faced by our industry have been met with impressive, and magnificent, engineering solutions. Many of these involve technologies that were essentially inconceivable a few years ago.

RND efforts in the industry and research institutions related to flow assurance are of major importance in order to bring new methods and new understanding to the complex problems that still face our industry.

We are therefore very pleased to invite you to a symposium where new and important insight will be presented in the area of flow assurance.

Chemistry assisted solutions and the environment
It is in the context of chemistry assisted solutions that we would like to assemble for the event 2010.

Many of the most cost-effective chemical solutions are directed at flow assurance issues and oil/water separation, and the symposium will address these issues both academically and with operational directed papers

Topics related to the increased awareness of environmental impact of the use of chemicals, such as scale inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors, and surfactants, will be on the symposium agenda.

Informal event and valuable networking
The fashionable venue of Dr. Holm's Hotel, and the informal atmosphere the symposium have has become legendary, and is reasons enough to come!

I sincerely believe that the informal and friendly atmosphere is essential to create good discussions, get new and valuable contacts in order to fully use the know how we have as oil field chemists.

If you've not yet experienced the symposium, I am confident that you will benefit both on the professionally and the socially level.
